Leading by example

From the moment we landed for LEAD we have been met with unexpected and exciting surprises.

The most exciting surprise of all? Our chance encounter with Canadian Olympic athletes Desiree Scott and Justin Duff. Scott won her second bronze playing midfield for Team Canada's soccer team, and Duff represented our country in volleyball, surprising the Americans as they dominated on the court.

Both Scott and Duff were all smiles, demonstrating the qualities of true leaders as they posed with eager fans and talked in depth about their Olympic experiences, despite coming off a long flight from Rio. Many of our Duke of Ed kids were lucky enough to snag a few photos with the athletes, and it was all many of us could talk about on our bus ride to camp.

Scott even let a few of us hold her bronze medal! (It was surprisingly heavy!)

We had a great time in the Winnipeg airport, meeting new faces and reconnecting with old friends.

We can't wait to see what the rest of our time at camp Cedarwood holds in store - if it is anything like our airport adventures, our time at LEAD is going to be a blast!
