This Giving Tuesday, the Duke of Ed is challenging our community to give back through small, everyday random acts of kindness. Sometimes just holding the elevator or sharing a smile with a person on the street can have a ripple effect. We want that ripple effect to spread throughout Canada via our participants to illustrate that one kind act can easily multiple and spread throughout an entire community. Be part of our Giving Tuesday movement as we share and post small acts of kindness on social media using the hashtags #givingtuesday #dukelife.
How can you participate in our challenge? It’s easy! Share a post with us that shows you in the midst of a kind act and you will be automatically entered into our #dukeofed swag giveaway! There are a few rules you need to follow in order to participate:
1. You must like/follow our page on either:
Facebook, Twitter or Instagram
2. Use the hashtags #GivingTuesday & #dukelife
3. Tag the Duke of Ed so we can see your post!
4. Include a little blurb explaining you’re act of kindness
To get you in the spirit of giving, and to give you an idea of the type of posts we are looking for at The Duke of Ed, we have created a list of 5, simple ways you can spread kindness each day throughout your life.
Donating doesn’t always have to be about money. You can donate food to soup kitchens, old clothes, toys and books to shelters or you can donate your time by volunteering. Check out our tips volunteer ideas here.
2. Smile and say “hello”
How often do we pass by our neighbours on the street and look down at our feet?Sometimes it can be difficult to reach beyond our shy exterior to connect with a stranger, but trust us – you could be making someone’s day.
3. Remind someone that you care
Often times, the people we love the most, are the same people who hear it from us the least. It can be as simple as writing a “thank you” card, or buying your parents some flowers. However you choose to express yourself, it’s always nice to someone know you are thinking of them.
4. Give blood
The Canadian Blood Service is always looking for donations of blood. This is an act that extends beyond making someone feel good. When you share your blood, you are helping to save a life.
5. Hold the door!
How many times have you found yourself rushing to the elevator only to have it close in your face? How often have you had your hands full, and wished someone would swoop in to open the door for you? Today is your chance to be the hero you always wished for.
We are sure you can come up with many more ways to give back and we are excited to see what you come up with! This Giving Tuesday, be the hero you always dreamed you could be, simply by spreading some kindness throughout your community.
